World War II epic “Dunkirk” comes to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center’s SpaceDome IMAX® Theater for two weeks only

HUNTSVILLE, AL – Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s World War II epic “Dunkirk” is coming to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center’s SpaceDome IMAX® Theater for two weeks only. The film opens here Thursday, July 20, with showings at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Nolan is one of the last directors to shoot his movies in the 70mm format, so this is one of the last chances to see a movie tailored for the SpaceDome’s 70mm IMAX® projector. “Dunkirk” is the story of the Allied forces’ first foray into mainland Europe that ended in near catastrophe. British and French troops were trapped in the port town of Dunkirk on the English Channel with the German army quickly approaching and no way to escape. The quagmire had British commanders even considering a conditional surrender in 1940, just one year into the war, but both military and civilian ships were able to mount one of the most daring rescue operations in history, saving more than 330,000 stranded soldiers from the clutches of the German war machine. The film has already been hailed by critics as being Nolan’s best work yet. Nolan was the director of the “Dark Knight” trilogy, “Inception” and “Interstellar,” so topping that list is no small feat. “Dunkirk” will end its run at the Rocket Center Sunday, August 13. Tickets and show times are available at rocketcenter.com/movies.
